Frame seems to be a requirement for most TW jobs here in Ireland. That
doesn't mean that it's always the number one requirement for the
position, but if you don't have Frame, you won't even get an interview.

cheers,

This tools "requirement" for Framemaker shows up on the list every few
months. I've been working as a technical communicator for almost 12
years and as a professional writer for more than 20. Framemaker has not
been the tool of choice, or even preference in any full-time or contract
position I've ever held. Since I've been out of work for a total of
about 6 days since 1997 (due as much to luck and geography as talent let
me assure you!), I don't think the lack of Framemaker knowledge is a
deal killer... Ability to write, communicate--design, train, learn,
test, and to relate to programmers, marketers, executives, end users
etc.--is much more important. I'd like to find out about this source as
well. I've always looked at Framemaker as a nice to have, but hardly a
requirement. I suppose I've missed some opportunities since it's not on
my resume, but I've had a number of very cool assignments over the
years, so I tend not to worry about it any more.

YMMV
