Michele asks: << What's up with all that? I had the shakes after that call
b/c her tone was very nasty. To me it's a red flag when a client needs a
writer yesterday and a writer is being pulled from the project. Are these
red flags to any of you? My reaction is to call the boss of the AR's b/c I
think her treatment of me was horrid.
Opine away oh mighty techwhirlers...>>
OK. Yes. It should be a red flag that the client needs a writer yesterday
and the current writer is being pulled from the project. But as a red flag,
you should only be alert to potential issues. The BIG red flag is the way
the recruiter behaved. That was unprofessional, and at minimum it was short
sighted.
Call the AR's boss? Well, if I were the boss, I'd want to know. Nothing in
the conversation was appropriate, especially discussing how "hungry" you
are, unless you'd had a good relationship of long standing with the AR. For
that, the AR would have had to earn your trust, usually over time, which
obviously this person did not (and should not have).
This "red flag" indicates to me that this firm, at this time, with this AR
is not for you. It is unlikely that this project is being managed well from
the firm's standpoint, judging by the AR's behavior. Unless someone calls
you who behaves in a more rational way, I'd let this assignment pass on by.
There are some situations (like the difficult boss), for which there is no
amount of pay that can make it worth it.
