I am frustrated with an autonumber format for a paragraph in Framemaker
because the corresponding heading number is not displaying correctly. I
am working from templates that I did not create so the problem could be
either that the template creator did not know what they were doing or
that I do not have much experience with creating autonumber formats. To
my inexperienced eye, the autonumbering in the templates appears to be
unnecessarily complicated.

Heading 4 is the heading that I am trying to add autonumbering to. The
levels of headings are as follows:

Heading 1
Autonumber format:
c:<n>.< >< ><n+>< =0>< =0>\t
Displays as:
3.4
3.5
Etc.

Heading 2
Autonumber format:
c:<n>.< >< ><n>.<n+>< =0>\t
Displays as:
3.4.1
3.4.2
Etc.

Heading 3
Autonumber format:
c:<n>.< >< ><n>.<n>.<n+>\t
Displays as:
3.4.1.1
3.4.1.2
Etc.

Heading 4
The autonumber format I thought would work is:
c:<n>.< >< ><n>.<n>.<n>.<n+>\t
I wanted this to display as:
3.4.1.1.1
3.4.1.1.2
Etc.

It's rather odd because a series of Heading 4's, using the autonumber
format above, looks as follows:

3.4.1.1.1
3.4.1.1.1
3.4.1.1.2
3.4.1.1.3

Why is the heading only incrementing after the second one in the series?
In other words, why isn't it:

3.4.1.1.1
3.4.1.1.2
3.4.1.1.3
3.4.1.1.4

I am not looking for suggestions on how to generally improve the
autonumbering - I wish I could, but I just don't have the time. I only
want suggestions on how to make the autonumbering work for Heading 4.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Amanda
