That lack of foresight could apply to general fields or to overly specific ones--say something like (I'm making these up) French Renaissance Poetry Written by Left-Handed People or Military Tactics of the South during the Civil War. Yes, you may find those things fascinating, but what can you do for a living besides teaching the topics to others?
