1. I agree with Gene.
2. Assumed functionality that isn't there is not a bug... it's a
feature request. They can wait for it either to be wrapped into a
later product update or they can live with the fact that their
assumption was wrong.
3. Make sure sales isn't pitching them a different story than your
development group is building.
4. Additional wording in the documentation about features that don't
exist is a bad idea. Document what the product does, and handle the
customers who complain according to #2 above.
