I would concentrate on familiarizing the new writer with your processes
and your company's products. If your company has training classes for
new hires in engineering, sales or field service, send him to them. When
picking tasks for him to help you with, concentrate on the ones involving
interaction with SMEs so that he can learn all the players' names and
faces. For the first few weeks, his objectives should not be centered
on "producing," but on absorbing the knowledge he's going to need to
become productive.
