Hi WR-Lers,
I've been successful in my search for an application that puts file names
on the clipboard. Ed Wurster's suggestion got me poking around on
Download.com, and I found Copy2Clip 1.0.4 (also found a fine new source
electronica, but I digress...).
Copy2Clip lets you copy the file names, and paste them in several
different flavours, including with the full path or as just the file name.
It was exactly what I was looking for. In case anyone else is looking for

And thanks for everyone's suggestions--I'm now a copy-and-pasting,
DOS-free monster.
