I have been following this thread and the sidebars off and on. I am not
sure if someone else has presented this or not, but in my realm of the
world, the users I write for do not care where the data comes from when
running a query. They do not care how something works, just as long as
it works.

A vast majority of my documentation is procedural in nature. The techs
using the documentation only want what is takes to complete the
procedure. They couldn't care less about the inner workings (i.e. what
is going on behind the scene when performing a procedure) or how the
programming of the software enables them to do the procedure.

I have a mixed bag of users. Some want screenshots and monitor examples,
others just want the commands needed to complete the task. For some of
the more complicated procedures I included a flow chart of the major
steps, others I didn't because not all the steps listed in the procedure
are necessary.
