A common misperception, it wouldn't be a problem with MS systems either,
'if they were correctly configured and set up. I think it's funny how
Linux-fans complain about MS products if they can't get it to work (as
well as vice versa ;)).
If there is a trust relation between the domains, and the permissions
are configured correctly, the UNC path (the one that starts with \\)
should work given that the network settings and service are correctly
configured and running. The version of the Windows servers as well as
the clients make all the difference.
However, more appropriate in this case would be to install IIS on the
server and share it via HTTP, as you don't want to hook up domains of
newly purchased companies directly to your own domain.
