TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Folks, this whole exchange is reminding me of a time when I had what I
thought was a good idea and someone kept responding simply, "It sucks."
I was not about to be convinced, but I COULD HAVE been convinced if he
had explained what was wrong with the idea. So instead if simply
saying, "Your writing sucks," which is not only undiplomatic but vague
and dismissive, what about a more detailed explanation of exactly what
is wrong with the writing in question?

I take this to mean "Pal, according to the standards used around here,
your writing sucks." Maybe if you or I applied for a job where Rahul
works, we would be told that our writing is too plain and abrupt, not
enough fun to read, over too quickly, devoid of the added value that
comes from interesting language and images. From market to market, I
imagine different qualities may be admired and different mistakes may be
forgiven.
