Re: Technical Writing with LaTeX
I find LaTeX an amazing tool and I often wonder why is it neglected by
technical writers.
I suggest three main reasons:
- Only a minority of technical writers are comfortable with CLI tools,no matter how good they are. They prefer WYSIWYG tools
- Ditto for UNIX-based tools. Although there used to be a Windows version, and various plug-ins for Windows are available, they require a fair bit of setting up.
- For most tech-writing purposes, FrameMaker, InDesign, and OpenOffice.org are good enough. For that matter, many professional publishing houses don't use LaTeX for most technical books.
