Steve said he was outvoted by his group. To me, that means he has to do
what the group decided or suffer the consequences. He apparently cannot
follow the best advice -- documenting what's there. Are you suggesting
that he should insist on it?
I think the position John is taking runs something like this: If Steve's group voted to jump off a cliff, it would not be in Steve's interest to act as if he were bound by the vote. Now I'm not sitting in Steve's seat, with Steve's level of job security or insecurity, as the case may be; so I'm not going to advise Steve one way or the other. But I think John's position is at least tenable--as is yours. This is one of those situations where reasonable people not only may differ but also do differ.
