Just at the moment, I am particularly curious about home office setups/computer equipment that I might need to purchase. Does anyone contract using a Mac, or am I going to have to buy a PC to be effective?

When I provide my own equipment, I use my Mac. If I am required to use the equipment provided by the client, that's what I use. I have not yet encountered a situation where the client insisted that I use a PC of my own. The one case where there might be a problem is if you are using/testing software that runs on a PC or some other platform, but in that case you should be using your client's laboratory setup anyway. :)

Look out for land mines in contracting such as liability insurance. See other thread.
