Wanna hear something crazy? I say about twenty of us Western techcomms relocate to a nice, civilized spot somewhere in Australasia with reliable broadband and satellite backup, work hard, join the local community, and remotely take a big 'ol chunk of the global English-language techcomm business while living surprisingly well.
To be global-to-the-max, how about establishing colonies of writers about 8 hours apart around the globe, so projects could get 24 hours per day of professional production. I once teamed up with a writer in Australia like that to jam a project through in double-time to beat an "impossible" deadline. All it takes is a little wiki-work....
