You were hired and promised the 'office in good time'.

That happened.

Your agreement with the management that hired you gave you the office.

That happened.

Since both management and your peers are looking at you, I agree that you
should produce the best you can.

Thank them for their concern and their recognition.

Construct your office space as recommended, and keep an 'open door'

Your description of the bypass scenario, and the other more
personally-directed 'vasectomy/tubal ligation' scenario are excellent method of explanation..

One additional thing, the details of your hire-on agreement are not 'public
information' and should be protected as such.

Never feel guilty for any of the 'perks' that come your way, you EARNED
then.
