Re: Word question: Heading numbering not following
The built-in heading styles are unnumbered by default. Problems arise
when multiple users with different styles and templates work on a
document with standard style names, like Heading 1.
As I said, I've never had a problem introduced by use of the built-in heading styles.
On the other hand, the multiple-writer projects I've led have always adhered strictly to automatic use of a standard template, and distributed PDF or printed output.
The problem you describe is one of many reasons NOT to distribute .doc files as finished output.
