No, but there's a couple of things you can do in any version that may be
easier than your approach.
My own preference is to create a list style that uses the graphic as a
bullet, then attach it to the style for tips or notes. I generally place
the word "Tips" or "Notes" on the same line as a graphic, automating the
whole thing as a macro, then set up a second style that is automatically
used next for the tip or note itself. This takes a bit of setting up,
but, then so does using a reference graphic in FrameMaker for the same
purpose.
Another alternative is to insert the graphic manually, adjust the text
flow, then change its frame style to Marginalia. The adjustments and
change of frame style can be put into a macro, but that's as far as you
can automate.
