In other words, unless you plan to retire in the next five years, open
source tools are likely to be part of your job as a tech-writer.
----------------------------
I've been using open source tools for about three years now. I started with GIMP as a PhotoShop replacement, have moved on to OOo, and have several others in line to learn. Trouble is the time involved. Too much to do too little time.

I still maintain that the biggest hurdle with open source is installation. For example, in a recent post, you (Bruce) mentioned Bluefish. I went to their Web site and got pretty excited about it. But after ten minutes of looking around I couldn't find all of the files needed for installation so I gave up. Too much work when the home edition of XML Spy is free, does everything I currently need, and the install is a single file.

That's just me, I suppose.
