A small nit-pick. Some versions of Linux are POSIX compliant, but many
are not.

However, it's fair to say that most versions of Linux are not far off
being POSIX compliant, so that what works on a major version of UNIX can
usually be ported to Linux with a minimum of trouble.

The reverse is also true. I believe that both the KDE and GNOME desktops
began on Linux and were later ported to UNIX (please correct me if I'm
wrong).
