I just noticed that Wikipedia not only has a number of articles on
well-known fonts, but that these articles often include a section that
lists the companies, governments, and institutions that use ethe fonts
For those on the list that do design work, these sections are a useful
guide to the history and associations of each font. The article on Gill
Sans, for example, shows that it is widely used by a number of British
institutions, including the BBC. Similarly, while Joanna isn't listed,
the disambiguation page mentions that it is ued by Homeland Security in
the US. Paying attention to these associations may help people to choose
fonts with more sophistication.
