TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm on both Ryze and LinkedIn, and while I haven't actually gotten
work through either, I have found the Ryze experience to be an
interesting one. Most of the activity there takes place in their
message boards (what they call Networks). Anyone can set one up, and
it seems like a lot of people have. The relative few I'm on have a
good signal-to-noise ratio, but I haven't found a
tech-writing-specific board, for what that's worth.
The other thing I like about Ryze is that there are a bunch of "local"
networks that organize face-to-face gatherings. I don't remember
whether they hook you up automatically when you join, or whether you
have to search for it.
Haven't had the time to really make the most of these services, but
that might change soon. Be interested to hear others' experiences,
too. Hope this helps.
