One of the things I do when faced with a new job or
complex task is to document it. Even if it never is
used by someone else, I tend to understand processes
better when presented in a flow chart process.

Usually someone gets wind of what I have and wants
to see it and it propagates on it's own. Managers
eventually find out about it and it becomes what
everyone uses, discusses, and invariably leads to
improvements to the process.

That the original poster has been asked to do this,
so much the better.

Once the process is understood, trimmed down versions
like the coworker notes can be produced to aid the
experienced, but until you understand the process,
crib notes don't have much value.
