I don't think I would ever advise someone in a situation like this to play
hardball (if someone who had already decided to asked *how,* that
would be different). My observation of others who have gone the hardball
route is that in some cases they managed to make things better for those
who came after them, but even if things turned out the way they hoped
the experience still resulted in bad feelings about the fact they had to do
it at all and they ended up leaving their employers fairly soon after. Not
to say you shouldn't take a stand, just don't do so believing that the
problem will be resolved and you will automatically be happy with your
job again.
