I HIGHLY recommend CareerBuilder, if you wish to look for work in your
community. I found that Monster.com is pretty useless if you're looking
for work in any particular geographical area. If you ask it for jobs in
Orlando, you're as likely to find companies hiring in Arizona, New York,
and Washington (both state and D.C.) as you are to find jobs within 60
miles of downtown Orlando. It makes them pretty much useless if you want
to confine your search to a certain geographical area.
CareerBuilder, on the other hand, is much more locally focused. You may
not find the same broad mix of jobs that you do on Monster, but you will
find a much higher concentration of jobs in your area by going through
CareerBuilder than you will by using Monster. I was led to my current
position about ten months ago by CareerBuilder. In fact, when I put my
resume up on CareerBuilder, I found four jobs that were appealing enough
to send cover letters within the first few days (I was working full time
at the time, but was ready to grow again) and I was contacted by two
other companies who saw my resume. Monster...not so much.
I guess each of the two has strengths and weaknesses. If you are tired
of your town and ready to make a new start wherever work may lead you,
then Monster may be the way to go. If you have deep roots where you are
and want to maximize your opportunity to find work locally, then I would
suggest CareerBuilder.
