MS WORD: Cross-reference to custom styles?

Subject: MS WORD: Cross-reference to custom styles?

I've had to develop two custom styles for a document chapter that requires special formatting. I can't modify Word's built-in styles because those need to stay as-is for the online help.

I need to make some cross references using these styles, but only Word's built-in styles show up in the Insert --> Cross-reference --> Reference type: drop-down.

Is there a way to get the Reference type: to include my custom styles, or is there a work-around?

thanks
Michael
