TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
My current manager is not a TW and he is great. He gives me as much time as
I need on the big projects and I stop what I am doing, whenever I can, to
help him on little ones. We get a long GREAT!! My first manager was not a
tech writer and she too was great!
The replacement of my first manager had an English degree she recieved in
the 70's and she was, well let's just say interesting. Her managerial skills
in general were interesting, she called me into her office one day and asked
if I wanted to be the tech writer or the department admin.
assistant..however my problems with her had little to do with my work.
I did a contract for 6 months for a manager who most of the time "got stuck"
doing the writing, he had no formal training but did a fair job. He was the
best, as not only did he really appreciate having a tech writer for a few
months, but he wanted to learn as much from me as possible, to make his job
easier when I left. That was a fun contract!
