Hello, fellow techwhirlers.
I've recently experienced a completely bizarre situation and wonder whether this is a known FrameMaker 7.0 bug.
I have a procedure with 7 steps. Step 1 uses the Number-Restart tag. Steps 2 through 7 use the Number tag. I use the Number-Skip tag to include non-numbered paragraphs in a step.
I also use the Number-Skip tag for non-numbered paragraphs that hold anchored frames. When an anchored frame contains artwork with captions, the number of the step following the paragraph with the artwork and captions suddenly resets to 1. I am not kidding. It is completely bizarre.
Quite by chance, a few weeks ago, I seemed to resolve the situation by removing captions from the artwork. The problem raised its ugly head again this afternoon when I replaced a PNG in a numbered step with embedded artwork with captions.
My colleague found an interesting, if bizarre, solution. She selected the artwork and moved it to within a frame in a previous step. She then reapplied the Number tag and respecified the position of the anchored frame. She then moved the artwork back into its original location and, hey presto, the number of the step following the paragraph did not reset.
I share this information with all of you so that it is recorded in the archives, so that it is "googleable", and so that anyone who knows what causes this can share that information with me and my colleague. We are just shaking our heads over this one.
