You'll probably still have to explain many times what
a tech writer is and does. 99% of Americans, you tell
them you're a technical writer, and the only thing
they can think of is you're one of the people who make
VCR programming guides unreadable. :-)

Heck, inside a lot of hi-tech companies there are lots
of people who don't really understand what a technical
writer *does.* I usually them I translate from
Geekinese to English.
