Table styles just don't seem to work right for me. I've seen symptoms like this, symptoms even spookier, and so on.
That said, one of the cures for a paragraph that says it is in one style but the style doesn't seem to take is to remove all character formatting (via Clear Formatting). If you've tried that and the style still says one thing and looks like something else, you're seeing the Spooky Table Styles bug.
