TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
This is a lesson to everyone to read contracts before signing them. If you
don't understand something or think it's confusing, ask your attorney.
My thought is that if a client wants two weeks' notice from me then I
require the same from them and adjust the contract to include that. If they
choose to ask me to leave without the two weeks' notice they are still on
the hook for paying for my services for those two weeks.
I believe you set the tone of a relationship with a contract and that it's
important to set it as professionally--and equitably--as possible. Any
company that's not willing to be equitable and professional when you're
negotiating a contract is probably a company you don't want as a client.

I've had contracts that said they didn't have to give me any notice
whatsoever, but I had to give them 2 weeks...
