TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
50,000/1,000 = 50 an hour 50*2080 = $104,000 per year.
50,000*2=100,000/2080 hours per year = $48 an hour.
If the gentleman were a consultant working potentially less than 2080 hours
per year he'd have to figure that in. But for all intents and purposes, my
way works as yours does and it gets you pretty much the same results. I also
had included infrastructure, etc., in mine as I indicated in my original
email.

Nope. Double your salary and then divide by 2. Why? Insurance,
infrastructure, and other overhead costs. It generally costs a company
twice your salary to employ you.
