Re: I'm sticking with WinHelp (was Re: WinHelp on Vista - a usefullink)
"Other design considerations"?
One example of a design consideration might be:
"Mike's customers like popups with embedded links."
Or:
"Mike's customers use varying browser security settings."
It's always interesting to have to tell a customer that the new,
improved widget doesn't do all of the things that the old widget could
do. I recently had that experience with our office phone system.
Those are not design considerations. They are at *best* requirements,
but are more accurately pieces of customer profiles, which feed
requirements, which in turn inform design considerations.
It's easy to tell a customer that new and improved widgets don't do
everything they used to as long as they do what the customer needs
them to do.
Customers/users don't need formatted popups and non-scrolling regions.
Those are elements of design we as writers/developers choose to
implement based on design consiferations. What customers/users need is
a usable product with solid, easy to access documentation for when
they need help using the application.
