Absolutely right, and you don't want to ask questions that will get
them thinking "sheesh, didn't this person even LOOK at our web
site???"

Generally, you need to do your homework to the point of understanding
what they do, who they do it for, and why they need you. If you don't
have answers to these basic questions before the interview, plan some
general banter at the beginning of the interview. But generally all
these will be answered by the "opening remarks" of the hiring parties
when you sit down to chat.

I like the DO and DO NOT approach... I'll add a few quick ones...

DO ask intelligent questions.
DO NOT ask questions for the sake of asking questions.
DO ask detailed follow-up questions to info they present to you.
DO NOT ask stupid questions when following up, such as "what is
.NET"... chances are it was in the job posting and you missed your
opportunity to do your homework.
DO ask some of the same questions of different people.
DO NOT ask ALL of the same questions of different people, and DO NOT
try this approach if the multiple people are all in the same room.
DO ask questions that show that you know why you're there, what they
need you to be doing if employed, and why they need you.
DO NOT ask questions that show you're just looking for a job, that you
don't understand what they specifically need of you in the open
position, or that you need them more than they need you.

On a first round interview, when the interviewers tell you they have an hour
before they have to do other things, and after one of the interviewers
leaves the interview to, in fact, go do those other things, do NOT then pull
out a list of 30 written questions and then start thru that list. Unless you
want to make sure you are not asked back.

Respect the time of the people you are interviewing with. They are very busy
people who have set aside the time you are there but don't have time to chat
about the company etc. for several hours. Especially in the first interview,
where you are being looked at for general fit.
