Kevin, who describes himself a "Southern Canadian" asked of us
Southerners, "Um, when y'all write to your homies, d'y'all _write_ in
dialect?" (eh?)

An interesting question. I cannot speak for other Southerners, but only
for me and those Southern friends with whom I correspond and the answer
is a definitive no. I am 60 and I was taught in school that written
correspondence should always be done using formal English, even to
friends. Only my cousins and friends from Pennsylvania and New Jersey
write in slang and euphemisms.
