It's company-specific. Here are some examples (identified by initials
only, for anonymity):

* At Company "A," a tech writer working on
end-user software documentation might
reduce the volume of calls to the Help
desk by a certain percentage.

* At Company "B," a tech writer working on
an FDA-regulated quality system might
reduce the number of observations made
during audits.

* At government agency "NASA," a tech
writer working on engineering specs might
reduce the number of Mars probes that
smack into the planet at full speed.

If you can give us more details about your company, we might have ideas
for specific metrics.
