Web Site Analysis (aka analyzing the IIS log file)
Subject:Web Site Analysis (aka analyzing the IIS log file) From:"Roberts, Dan x36117" <dan_roberts -at- adp -dot- com> To:"'TECHWR-L'" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com> Date:Thu, 21 Dec 2006 16:33:22 -0500
Hi folks, first post in a long while, so bear with me.
Our corporation is using a web site analysis tool (WebTrends 7.5b) to
analyze the use our documentation web site gets.
However, my boss (and boss's boss and boss's boss's boss) want to track hits
to specific pages, by specific users - WT7 doesn't do this at all, tho the
information is apparently in the IIS log file to do so. Also, I'm
discovering that the query/filter options on various "canned" reports are
flaky, at best. And, it's not possible to apply one set of selection
criteria across more than one report. Long story short - the tools isn't
easily giving us the reports we want, sliced and diced as we need them.
I'm almost to the point of dumping the IIS log files into Excel, and
whipping out my set of Ginzu knives, but Excel and prep-chef skills are
beyond me.
Does anyone else use a IIS log file analysis tool, one that provides a
correlation between users and pages, and well as multiple filter/selection
options, and one that they are happy with?
TIA for any leads that folks can provide.
