Subject:What do you use for File management? From:Rick <rickrett -at- rocketmail -dot- com> To:techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com Date:Mon, 29 Jan 2007 10:32:01 -0800 (PST)
A division of my old company just got sold off to a company with nothing in place to adequately store documents. I have the opportunity to start fresh with a document management system of my choice, but I don't know where to start.
Obviously, we want to keep revision control. I also would like to have workflow capabilities to manage reviews and possibly push docs to an external web server when approved. Anyway, here is my starter list of requirements. I'm not sure if I can find something that does everything, but I thought I'd put it out to this group for some advice.
RequirementsRevision Control
Document archive/repository
Workflow management - w/ ability to track electronic sign off
Batch processing w/ parent/child association
Access Control (internal and external) w/ defined privileges and reporting feature
Multiple user group definitions
Cross platform interface (web interface would be great)
API (software development kit to make customizations)
Search Tool that crosses categories
Ability to tie into website
Ability to tie into CCS
Ability to securely bi-direction transfer documents w/ customers
Can you tell me what you are currently using and pros and cons?
Thanks!
~Rick
