I was thinking about qualifying my comment by saying that you need evidence to support it, but somehow I went on and thought something else before I said what I was thinking.

People do need to be careful with their comments, though. I have mentioned that there are previous employers that I have taken to DLSE for failure to pay me on time. I only provided the identity of one. It is true that they did not pay me on time and that the DLSE ordered that they should pay penalties. I cannot be sued for stating that truth. If I in turn also said that this is how X company treated me and this is how they will treat you, then I can be sued because that is a false claim. I think that ranking and personal opinion are subjective enough to escape a claim of libel. It can also be true that I do not like X company and as long as I keep it personal and don't state false information, I should be safe.
