Sure. And it may be hard to 'pull off' sounding interested in your
co-worker's problems (let alone "energized, bright, and excited") when
you feel apathetic, annoyed, and jaded.

But most people manage it. Much of the time. And the world is (by and
large) a better place for it.

And here's the really cool part: if you 'pull off' seeming interested
(or 'energized, bright, and excited') for long enoung, you tend to
move in that direction, energy-wise.

It's basic Aristotle: Actions become habits; habits become part of our
personality. Or something like that.
