"The WinHelp.exe program is a version of Windows Help designed for
16-bit .hlp files. The WinHelp.exe program will continue to be included
with Windows Vista."
Note that they're saying they're going to continue to distribute the
OLD WinHelp executable. Now why on earth would that be?? Is it because
they need to use WinHelp to do things that .CHM files can't do?
The old WinHlp32.exe can be copied from Windows XP and works just fine
on Windows Vista (http://www.itwriting.com/blog/?postid=535). Their
justification for dropping support for WinHelp? "...the Windows Help
program has not had a major update for many releases and no longer
meets Microsoft standards."
So let me see... WinHlp32.exe no longer meets Microsoft standards but
WinHelp.exe (which hasn't had an update in even longer) does?
<sigh>
