TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
First time I've seen this manual...they're definitely going for humor as
an element of their branding and, given the audience, it's not a bad
idea. Personally, I thought it was pretty hilarious, but that's only
because I have a sophisticated and nuanced sense of humor, unlike the
rest of you squares :)

Wow. Harsh reactions, dudes.
This manual was posted to techwrl a bunch of years back, and got a
significantly better reaction from us then:
"funny and pleasantly distracting"
"It's wonderful! ..what a trip!
"This manual makes me want go out and buy the product"
"LOL"
The Helix, BTW, is an "extreme" sports watch for 18-24 yr old males.
These are the kids that drink Red Bull, watch Super MX, play Halo,
and call each other "dude." There's probably way too much text here
for this audience, actually, but what is there is written just fine
(needs a bit of copy editing, but hey, glass houses).
Really, guys. Humor is entirely appropriate in tech writing given
the right audience. Loosen up. Have some Red Bull.
Laura
