Versions of Visio that support ERwin ERX metadata format for database
models are as follows.

* Visio 2000 Technical/Enterprise/Professional
* Visio 2002 Professional/Visual Studio .Net Enterprise Architect
* Visio 2003 Professional/Enterprise Architect.

If you eventually will work with metadata for Object Modeling and your
current version of Visio is not one of the above then you may want to go
with either Professional or one of the Enterprise Architect versions; I
believe only those support UML XMI imports.

... My database people have obligingly created ERWIN files for me to use
as the starting point.

I've found instructions on how to import the files online, but even
Microsoft's site is not clear on the version of Visio being used, the
feature comparisons there have only confused me further, and I'm not
seeing the UI elements they tell me to use. The Visio help appears to
have been rendered pretty much useless since version 2000.

So, does anyone on this list know if the standard version of Visio 2003
includes a way to import ERWIN files, or is that only in the
Professional version of the program?
