Ned Bedinger was replying to Jim Dexter when he happened to say:

I'm not alone in this: My last STC membership lapsed around 2000,
when the company stopped paying for such frills (and also for
frills like the STC Conference in Disney World... this is not
to say that I held off each year and then decided against springing
my own bucks until after I evaluated the coming year's conference
site... it's not to SAY that, but you can think it :-),
and my renewal/resumption will happen in just a few weeks, as
the paperwork is processed to have the company pay for our
STC memberships once again. (It's nice that they feel comfy
enough, fiscally, to pay for frilly bits now [do you have that
in a Teddy?]. )

So, if I were now to pay for certification (don't hold your
breath), then either it would be _another_ frill that the company
volunteered to pay for, or it would be the first such one
that came out of my pocket. Thus the either/or-but-not-both
hypothesis doesn't seem to apply.

Cheers,

Kevin
