Wikis can be good. I use them as a starting point, a source, of info which I
can then chase up, check, clarify, distill etc etc. The fact that it's so
easy to post a page to the Wiki makes the development guys much better at
doing it UNPROMPTED!

A customer facing wiki could be a good thing too, but it's not a replacement
and would probably need policed. Our internal wiki is for internal use only,
nothing from it should leave without being sanitised, presuming it leaves
the wiki at all.

A good point. Too often "use the Wiki" becomes a substitute for organized
documentation. It's easy to have a big list of issues and no description of
actual procedures regarding the project. I can think of at least one help
authoring tool that suffers from this wikifiction...
