Is this discussion ONLY about software?
If so, are we leaving out all the other 'technical writers'?
The ones who write the documentation for our cars, our telephones, our
refrigerators, our dishwashers? (Which can be either hardware of software
documentation.)
What about the aircraft technical writers? What about the training
environment?
What about the writers of the standards we all are so 'proud of'?
MS (and all of its documentation), Adobe, Framemaker, UML, XML, and
others.
Let's not get bogged down with the 'software' technical writing.
To all --
Have you only worked in (1) one industry, or (2) are you expected 'as a
technical writer" to be flexible and take on any engagement that comes along?
My belief is (2). The tools you use may be important, but they are not the
most important.
If I am wrong, tell me where?
