TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
You have a thoughtful manager. The bottom line is, if you are going
to do a proper job of managing a department you will not be able
to spend as much of your time writing as you do now, nor should
you. If the idea of managing multiple projects, guiding other writers
through their projects, clearing obstacles out of other writers' paths
and planning strategies for your department to attain and maintain
a performance track record that will (hopefully) help make your
team seem too valuable to cut in the next round of layoffs doesn't
fire up your enthusiasm as much as or more than spending all your
time writing, perhaps this position is not right for you.
