TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Best of luck in your upcoming (I know you will find one) position!
I had a job like the one you have now---all the emphasis placed on producing
pages. The final straw was being backed into a corner and screamed at until
the cords stood out in my bosses (her) neck because I hadn't met my
"quota." I walked. It was an incredibly bad environment with management
based on fear. I was told later that this was well known in the tech writer
community as a "sweatshop" and that no one stayed unless they just couldn't
find anything else. I did learn the lesson. Ask about a company, and
believe what others tell you :-D That has saved me a time or two since
then.
Really, Frank, life is too short to be unhappy, or for that kind of stress.
Best wishes!
