My advice would be to get a background in databases.
Find out what type of database it is, and read the
documentation on an Open Source or easily affordable
variant to get the terminology and basic idea. Then,
if it's SQL for example, consider playing with it
directly. I use SQLite because it recognizes 92%
(approx) of SQL and installs in 1.4 minutes.
