I can't testify as to whether it's "standard" or not but trying to
accomplish left-alignment of first-level bullets and numbering in HTML takes
an act of Congress, several "Hail Marys" and a good act of contrition. The
default rendering in most browsers for ordered and unordered lists in HTML
is indented a tad.
