Are they offering a permanent position with benefits? Grab it and negotiate for a membership in STC with several SIGs, attendance at two writers' conferences (maybe one a speciaty IT Writers weekend), and an online Tech Writer certificate program.

There is certainly a career path from IT support into Technical Writing. For qualification as a Senior Technical Writer, you'd have to beef up your basic writing skills. The above sentence shows several problems; the proposed correction that follows is not the only way it could be presented but does correct the major flaws.
